In Azure Websites | Manage Domains when attempting to add "www.mydomain.com", it gives error message:
"The DNS record for 'www.mydomain.com' that points to 'mydomain.azurewebsites.net' could not be located. If you want to configure an A record, you must first create a CNAME record with your DNS provider for 'awverify.www.mydomain.com' that points to 'awverify.mydomain.azurewebsites.net'. First allow the resource record to propagate, and then create the A record."
When I go to Office 365 | Admin | Domains | MyDomain.com | Manage DNS | New CNAME and then type in info and click Save, the dialog box disappears and the record is not saved. No error message is provided.
Logging in and out of Office 365, refreshing page, typing domain names in different formats, using different browsers, etc, all result in not being able to add the record that Azure needs. And, it seems to happen for all of my domains--though I only tested 3.
Seems like a bug. Basically Azure can not be configured to serve the "www" site until I can add a CNAME record in Office 365 DNS settings and Office 365 does not create the record and does not throw error!!
